​​Sustainability, Environmental and Location Factors

As a company we are very conscious of our carbon footprint and as renewable energy becomes more reliable and cost effective, we are in the process of seeing how we migrate our machinery towards a greener future. In many of the remote areas we supply power, the reliability of mobile e-energy or solar energy is not there yet and on time critical jobs it is not practical or reliable. Since the Covid years, we have made moves to utilise e-bikes and e-carts for our staff whenever working on event sites such as LUMA and the the NZ Golf Open. Using these more sustainable modes of transport while working at events is a way that we have been able to reduce our carbon footprint. 

Staff are also able to commute by e-bike to work and utilise these modes of transport wherever possible. At the 2023 Film Industry Symposium, the key note speaker a professor on Energy and Sustainability explained that New Zealand’s biggest carbon emitter is meat and dairy production. As we migrate away from fossil fuel, this helps keep in perspective that those of us is the minority industries have a small role to play to reducing carbon footprints. Battery packs work for small jobs but at present there is yet to be an economical and reliable way to power many of the remote spots we take mobile power into. This is however a technological shift we will continue to investigate. generators are often a key target and perspective is often lost on the fact that the big events we power up with generators, like concerts and festivals, have thousands of people who have flown into Queenstown by aeroplane or driven by car and vans. That travel footprint is huge. We are a small pert of the bigger puzzle yet keen to move with sustainable practices as they become more reliable and economical to implement in our small industry. At present, we are enjoying the introduction on e-bikes into our daily work life. Times are changing and we’re looking forward to the new initiatives that lie ahead to a greener future.
